Genre Research: Holiday Heart

This movie is a heartening story about a drag queen taking in a family of two (a mother and daughter) and helps raise the daughter while her mother battles with drug addiction and everything that comes along with it.

This movie often displayed close-ups. Using close-ups, we could see the emotions of the character that was on screen. Establishing shots in this movie were found in the beginning of the scenes. Their purpose was showing where the scenes is filmed and to give the viewers an idea of the time and place this is occuring.

The costumes were out of the ordinary. The film was centered around a poor mother and child who got taken in by a kind-hearted man. There was a frequent wardrobe change. The lighting was decent, the acting was believable but it was not the best while still managing to capture the essence of a kind soul. The make-up was horrible, which is acceptable because this movie was made in the early 2000s. People back then went for flashy make-up. The props were realistic and they had an array of settings. The two most prominent settings were the duplex and the club the main character worked out.

The sound the movie used were diegetic and non-diegetic. Another sound I noticed were sound bridges. They would start talking in one scene and it would overlap another scene. Every movie has dialogue... unless it is a silent movie of course. Voiceovers happened in the scenes were the character was thinking to themselves.

Fading, both in and out can be found throughout this movie.

The genre drama has a plot, characters, possible songs and dialogue.

I like that there was a lot of conflict as the plot moved forward. The scenarios were portraying real life and things that happen in real life. I did not like the amount of songs. I chose drama for a reason, I did not choose a musical.
